The Power of Consistency: An Order Six Months in the Making

I recently secured an order I had been pursuing for half a year, and the client’s parting words stayed with me: “Actually, I’ve been following your Moments the whole time.”

This journey began six months ago when I received an inquiry from a client in Nigeria. He was looking for a 30kW screw air compressor for his plastic bottle factory. We engaged in a detailed exchange where he asked about everything from oil-free options and voltage requirements to specific delivery timelines. I provided comprehensive answers to every question and sent over a formal quote, feeling confident in the proposal.

Then—silence. No follow-up, no “I’ll think about it,” and no reply at all. In the world of export business, this isn’t unusual; clients are often comparing multiple suppliers, projects face unexpected delays, or sometimes contacts simply disappear without a word. While many suppliers might have deleted the chat to move on to fresher leads, I decided to keep the connection alive in a different way.

Over the next six months, I maintained a consistent presence on Facebook and WeChat Moments. I wasn’t pushing for a sale or sending pestering messages; I was simply documenting our daily work. I shared videos of 30kW compressors being loaded into containers, photos of our team applying extra rust-proof oil for shipments to humid climates, and screenshots of satisfied customers reporting months of issue-free operation. I even posted short clips of our after-sales team conducting remote troubleshooting sessions at 11 PM to show our commitment to support.

Last week, my phone finally buzzed with a message from him: “Hey, remember me? The inquiry from six months ago.” When I told him I certainly did, he sent a message I will never forget: “Actually, I’ve been following your Moments the whole time. I saw every post—the loading videos, the customer feedback, the late-night service calls. At first, I was looking at three different suppliers. But after watching you for six months, I know who I can trust.”

He explained that while his project had been delayed by permit issues, he never stopped observing our operations. He noticed that my enthusiasm wasn’t tied to a sales pitch; I posted every week, even when no one was asking. He saw the small, critical details: the extra wrapping on rainy days, the handwritten labels inside wooden cases, and the way we took accountability for a two-day shipment delay by sending a gift as compensation.

“Other suppliers are only enthusiastic when I ask for a quote,” he noted. “You are enthusiastic all the time. That’s the difference.” That same day, he placed an order—not just for the original compressor, but for two units, plus a dryer and two filters. When I expressed my gratitude for his trust, he simply replied: “Don’t thank me. Thank your consistency.”

That message resonated deeply. In international trade, we often assume that price or brand name are the only deciding factors. However, clients often choose based on a much simpler premise: reliability. They want to know if you show up day after day, even when you think no one is watching.

This experience reinforced my belief that social media updates aren’t just for “likes.” They are a window into our professional integrity. By consistently showing the reality of our workflow—the successes, the challenges, and the extra effort—we build a bridge of trust that traditional advertising cannot replicate. Somewhere, someone is watching and waiting for the right moment to reach out. And when they are finally ready, they will always remember the one who never disappeared.
